What I’m Making Room For
· By Rob Witty
Most evenings, you’ll find me with a few close friends, watching the sun set over the Pacific. We talk, laugh, and do our best to solve the problems of the world. So far, the world hasn’t taken all our advice—but there’s always tomorrow.
These gatherings are among the things I enjoy most about this chapter of life. I have more time for friendship, conversation, and simply enjoying where I am.

Mornings with Brenda are another favorite. We enjoy our coffee overlooking the ocean and the three islands here in Mazatlán. She’s my wife, my life partner, and the person with the sweetest heart. We both love cooking, and getting friends together for a barbecue is our kind of evening. It’s a relaxed life that gives us time to enjoy each other’s company.
Alongside that everyday happiness, I’m going through a deeper change.
Some people know that I was an ordained minister and pastored a church from 1982 to 1994. My spiritual and religious roots have been a significant part of my life. Today, I’m involved in what’s often called “deconstruction”—reexamining beliefs I once held and making room for new understanding.
Much of my old belief system has given way to a different sense of who we are, the divine spark within us, and our true human potential. I’m still exploring what that means. It’s something I want to share here as it unfolds, through personal reflections and things I’m learning.
That’s why I wanted this little corner of the internet. A place to talk about the life I’m living now: spiritual growth, retirement, health, freedom, music, and the people who make it meaningful.
For now, life includes morning coffee with Brenda, good food with friends, and another sunset over the Pacific.
There’s a lot to be grateful for—and still plenty to discover.
